Given below are some samples of informal methods of multiplication carried out by children. Some of them are done entirely mentally, others are partially or fully written. However the steps have been written down for clarity of the readers. Study the various methods used and try to classify them among

Front end multiplication (left to right)
Multiplication in stages (using factors)
Multiplication by rounding (using distributive law)
Multiplication by halving and doubling (moving factors)
Miscellaneous methods

Keep in mind that often a method may have characteristics of more than one category or children may use a combination of more than one method to suit a specific question.
